Salvage is one of the easiest ways to make aUEC in game given its low barrier-to-entry, and you will need salvage material for some crafting blueprints! Additionally, salvage has a significantly smaller learning curve than mining, so you can essentially jump in and get started with very little risk of exploding (less you ram into the ship you're salvaging). So, strap in, get scraping, and don't forget to pull the weapons and components off the ships you're salvaging first if you want to turn those around for even more profit!
Salvage Materials
RMC (Recycled Material Composite) - this is what you get from hull scraping
CM (Construction Material) - must be refined from one of the materials you get from structural salvage:
Rubble - lowest tier
Pieces - middle tier
Salvage - highest tier
Each of these raw materials are outlined in CIG's Salvage Guide:
FPS Salvage Tools
Greycat multi tool with Cambio-Lite SRT attachment installed
Cambio SRT (Salvage and Repair Tool)
Salvage Ships
RSI Salvation (Solo/Starter - Light Salvage Ship)
2x S1 Cinch Scrapers
6 SCU of storage, 6 SCU buffer for 13 SCU of total space (incl +1 held by packager)
Auto-unloading from cockpit onto the external 6 SCU auto-storage grid
NO built-in tractor beam!
MISC Fortune (Solo - Light Salvage Ship)
1x S1 Cinch Scraper
12 SCU of auto-storage, 13 SCU buffer for 27 SCU of total space (incl +2 held by packagers) (You can, however, stack an additional 4 SCU on the internal grid and 18 SCU in an unsecured manner within the ship if you were so inclined - do so at your own risk of physics shenanigans)
Auto-unloading from cockpit onto the external 12 SCU auto-storage grid
INCLUDES a built-in tractor beam (S1)
Drake Vulture (Solo - Light Salvage Ship)
2x S1 Cinch Scrapers
1x S1 Abrade Scraper
12 SCU of storage, 13 SCU buffer for 26 SCU of total space (incl +1 held by packager) (You can, however, stack an additional 14 SCU in an unsecured manner within the ship if you were so inclined - do so at your own risk of physics shenanigans)
Semi-auto-unloading from cockpit - you can eject 1x onto the holding platform, but then have to manually move it onto the adjacent cargo grid.
INCLUDES a built-in tractor beam (S1)
INCLUDES a fabricator for crafting some basic FPS tools
Argo Moth (Small Group/2-4 Crew - Medium Salvage Ship)
3x manned salvage turrets, with toggleable dual scraper heads on each (1x S1 Cinch & 1x S1 Abrade)
224 SCU of storage on cargo grids, separated as so:
96 SCU on either side's external grids that auto-eject from the packagers
32 SCU rear lift that would require EVA to load, best used for weapon and component storage from the ships you're salvaging
TWO 32 SCU buffers
288 SCU of total space (there is not really room to stack boxes unsecured inside the ship)
Auto-unloading from cockpit onto the external auto-storage grids
INCLUDES a fabricator for crafting some basic FPS tools
NO built-in tractor beam!
Can fracture ships up to a 600i or Starfarer in size
Aegis Reclaimer (Large Group/4+ Crew - Heavy Salvage Ship) - best for structural salvage
2x Independent Salvage Turrets, each with: 1x S1 Trawler Scraper and 1x Tractor Beam
420 SCU of storage, 240 SCU buffer for 660 SCU of total space
Manual unloading - the Reclaimer can eject salvage in containers as large as 16 SCU, though moving and stacking containers that large may pose a difficulty within the Reclaimer given its outdated design
INCLUDES two built-in tractor beams (S1)
INCLUDES two fabricators for crafting some basic FPS tools
You may also want a cargo ship - after you refine your construction material you will want to take the finished goods somewhere to sell, or consolidate them wherever your item fabricator is for crafting :)
Salvage Modules
All modules have three main modifiers:
Speed Multiplier - how quickly they will scrape ship hulls
Diameter Multiplier - the diameter of the scraping beam
Efficiency - how well the module converts scraped hull into packaged material
Cinch Scraper - smallest but fairly quick and efficient
Speed Multiplier: ~0.6-0.85
Diameter Multiplier: ~1-1.5
Efficiency: ~0.8-1.0
Abrade Scraper - happy middle-ground of most stats
Speed Multiplier: 0.15
Diameter Multiplier: 3.5
Efficiency: 0.9
Trawler Scraper - all about bulk collection, not efficiency
Speed Multiplier: 0.05
Diameter Multiplier: 6.0
Efficiency: 0.6
