Mining gadgets are FPS tools that you place on any mineable rock to modify its stats (FPS, Ground, or Ship mineables). You can only use ONE mining gadget on any rock - trying to use multiple "can result in a catastrophic explosion" - CIG. Statistics that modify "optimal charge window" refer to the green bar that fills to complete a fracturing. A "Cluster Modifier" adjusts how many resources you get from the deposit.
Optimax - slightly increases the difficulty due to the smaller window, but increases yield, perfect for very valuable clusters just like the Stalwart.

To use a gadget, put it on your character's utility slot (it will hang on the bottom of your backpack) then press [5] to equip it once you're in front of the mineable you want to use it on.
Hold [F] and press [right click] to bring up the radial wheel and choose PLACE
Place the gadget ON the mineable (place it at camera height if possible, as you'll need to interact with its screen).
Adjust the three sliders to raise the waveform accuracy % until the ACTIVATE button appears (must be 90% accuracy or above). Press it to turn on the gadget.
If you need to turn off the gadget and collect it before you're done fracturing, just DEACTIVATE then DETACH. Otherwise, once you're finished fracturing it will drop off automatically and you can pick it up again to reuse. Once in your hands, hold [R] to stow it on your backpack's utility slot.
