SO, you want to try FPS mining? Welcome to the party! (or the jail cell…) To begin, you just need a few things:
Greycat multitool with OreBit mining attachment OR the ARGO GEO
A full set of armor for environmental protection
A backpack for storing your mineables
Food and water - you'll be out here a while
Equip the FPS mining tool, stand close to a mineable rock, and look at it. The multitool will automatically scan the rock. When it's done scanning it will populate three values on screen. From top to bottom:
Resistance - to energy input - higher number = more energy required to fracture
Instability - measure of volatility - higher number = easier to overload
Mass
Left click to begin fracturing - the bar on the left is the fracture gauge, and the bar on the right is the power gauge for your mining laser. Use [left alt]+[scroll wheel] to raise/lower your power.
Adjust your power until the fracture gauge is in the GREEN DOT range. Continue adjusting your power as necessary to keep the fracture gauge in the green! Avoid overcharging at all costs (rock will go boom and you may die)
Your fracture progress is displayed on the bottom left as a green circle. Once the circle fills completely, you're done fracturing and the rock will break apart!
Hold [right click] and wave the beam over the now fractured chunks of rock to use the collection beam - this will automatically store them in your backpack - the rocks flying at you may push you around a little bit, but just keep holding [right click] and they will go into your backpack
